2017 Societas Ethica Annual Conference in Volos, GreecE

24 - 27 August 2017

TRAVELING TO VOLOS

The annual conference will be held in Volos, Greece on 24-27 August 2017 at the Volos Theological Academy in Volos, Greece. Conference attendees will stay at the Park Hotel, a short drive from the Volos Academy. Complimentary shuttles will be provided to transport attendees to the conference site.

Conference starts on Thursday, 24 August 2017 at 19:00 and concludes at Sunday, 27 August 2017 at 13:00.

  • The conference fee includes the shuttle services, conference participation, accommodation, all meals, and excursion — a Societas Ethica tradition.
  • On August 24, a shuttle service provided by Societa Ethica will depart from the Athens airport at 14:00 sharp for Volos. 
  • On August 27, a shuttle service provided by Societa Ethica will depart from Volos at 13:00 sharp for the Athens airport.  You will get an email for the exact location of the departure. You must pre-register for the shuttle, and you are responsible to be at the location shortly before 14:00. The shuttle will not wait in case of delay. Make sure you print out the alternative routes to Volos, which are provided below. 
  • Unless you have a flight that same late afternoon or early evening, you are advised to book a room in Athens for the night (Sunday-Monday). 

It is highly recommended that all conference attendees fly in and out of Athens airport. It is also recommended that attendees make arrangements to fly out of Athens on the morning of Monday, 28 August 2017, due to the lack of flights available in the evening of Sunday, 27 August 2017.

Directions FROM ATHENS TO VOLOS

 

 

 

There are no direct flights to Volos. It is strongly recommended that conference participants travel to Volos via the Athens airport.  Societas Ethica will provide a private shuttle that will depart from Athens airport and take participants to the conference site in Volos. The cost for the shuttle is included in the conference fee.

  • On August 24, a shuttle service provided by Societa Ethica will depart from the Athens airport at approximately 14:00 sharp for Volos. 
  • On August 27, a shuttle service provided by Societa Ethica will depart from Volos at 13:00 sharp for the Athens airport.  

The shuttle will leave at the predetermined time, and so if conference attendees miss the shuttle (for example, due to a flight delay), alternative details are provided below.

ARRIVING IN VOLOS ON 24 AUGUST 2017

It is highly recommended that all conference attendees arrive in Greece via the Athens airport. Societas Ethica will provide a shuttle leaving the Athens airport at 14:00 sharp. Cost for the shuttle is included in the conference fee and all conference attendees are encouraged to use it. It should be noted that depending on how you travel, it can take 3-5 hours to travel to Volos from Athens and so that should be taken into consideration when making travel arrangements.

The Societas Ethica shuttle will depart the Athens airport at  14:00 sharp and will arrive in Volos at 18:30. The bus will drop off attendees at the Volos Theological Academy directly from the airport and then take the luggage to the Park Hotel. Attendees will check into their rooms after the Thursday evening program. 

The conference opening dinner starts on 19:00 on Thursday, 24 August 2017.  and is followed by the welcome address and first keynote lecture.

DEPARTING VOLOS ON 27 AUGUST 2017

The conference will conclude at 13:00 on Sunday, 27 August 2017. Societas Ethica will provide a shuttle that will leave Volos at 13:00, and arrive at the Athens airport at 17:30, approximately. If there is no flight to your destination, we recommended that you either stay in Volos or in Athens until Monday. There will not be a shuttle from Volos to Athens on Monday morning.

Note — If you want to stay at the Park Hotel until Monday, please indicate when registering. We could book for you, but you need to pay yourself for the extra night.

ARRIVING VIA CAR

From Athens, to travel by car takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. Drive the car to the major road Athens-Thessaloniki and turn at the intersection of Velestino (320km) (Map - Route)

Please find above the telephones of four car rental companies operating at the Athens Airport. Their offices are located at the Arrivals Level of the Main Terminal Building.

ARRIVING VIA BUS

From Athens, to travel by bus takes 4 hours 30min. (320km). Travel on INTERURBAN BUS (KTEL), through the major road Athens-Thessaloniki: www.ktel.org

From the airport, you will have to first reach Liossion Bus Station of Athens: +30 210 8329585, +30 210 8317186. There are two ways to do this: by bus or by metro rail. 

Bus to Liossion Bus Station (from Athens airport)

Please take the route Χ93 that connects directly the airport with Liossion Bus Station of Athens: Kifissos KTEL (long-distance buses) Station – Airport and get down to the station Liossion Bus Station. The Bus Station is 5-7 minutes away on foot. The buses depart from the Arrivals Level, between Exits 4 and 5.

All buses run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with frequency varying according to day, time and season. Click on the relevant links atwww.athenstransport.com above to see timetables as of now. One-way travel time estimates: X93 (65 min). Allow sufficient time to travel as traffic conditions may cause delays.

Metro to Liossion Bus Station (from Athens airport)

From the airport via Metro Line 3 “Aghia Marina - Athens International Airport”. Take Metro Line 3 (Aghia Marina – Douk. Plakentias – Airport), which connects the Athens airport with the city center. Step off at the station Monastiraki, take line 1 (Piraeus – Kifissia) and descend at the station Kato Patissia. From there, the Liossion Bus Station is about 10 minutes away on foot.

Trains run every 30 minutes, 7 days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The trip from/to the Airport to Syntagma station (Athens center) lasts 40 minutes. See the Metro timetable here.

ARRIVING VIA TRAIN (through larissa)

Please note that there is no direct route to Volos from Athens. You will have to travel to Larissa with connection to Volos. For the timetable, please visit the official website of “Ose”: www.ose.gr. Ticket prices: 15 € - 23 €.

Reach Larissis Railway Station of Athens from the Athens Airport by metro. Take Line 3 and change line at the station Syntagma. Take the line 2 and descend to the station Larissis Station (Stathmos Larissis).

Reach Larissis Railway Station of Athens from the Athens Airport directly by Suburban Rail. For the current timetable and the tickets, please visit www.trainose.gr

Tip: Trains run 7 days a week from 5:26 am to 21:44 pm. The Suburban railway departs every 15-25 minutes from the Athens Airport railway station to Plakentias station, where you can change trains (platforms are on different levels) and continue to the city center (Metro Line 3 to Egaleo), using the same ticket.

Taxis are available at the designated Taxi waiting area located at Exit 3 of Arrivals Level. Fares for taxis are as follows: 

  • Day time flat fare (05:00 - 24:00) 
    • 38 €; Airport to Athens city centre inner ring: 
    • 38 €; Athens city centre inner ring to Airport
  • Night time flat fare (00:00 - 05:00)
    • 54 €: Airport to Athens city centre inner ring

Note: The charge is determined by the time of arrival at the destination and includes all applicable surcharges and extras.

ACCOMMODATIONS

 

Societas Ethica conference participants will be staying at the Park Hotel in Volos. These are basic/standard accommodations and they are included in the conference fee. 

Note: there are  limited number of double rooms available for those conference attendees who wish to bring a travel companion. Please indicate the interest in a double room in the Comments section when you register for the conference. 

The Holy Metropolis of Demetrias will provide two vans/buses to transports persons from the hotel to the conference center.
